Identity and Access Management has expanded from on-premises administration, authentication, authorization, and auditing into federation, IDaaS, and now Identity APIs designed to support hybrid and multi-cloud realities. As applications and accounts spread across multiple environments, organizations face rising complexity: users may need access to many services with distinct accounts, roles, and entitlements, while also meeting regulatory obligations and internal policies. Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) addresses this by maintaining visibility into who has access to which resources. Signs an IGA program needs modernization include fragmented access-request experiences across multiple portals, painful recertifications where reviewers face dozens of unclear entitlements, and incomplete or inconsistent role models that make access assignment overly complex and frustrating.
Modernizing IGA is often difficult because legacy systems are heavily customized over time, requirements can be hard to define amid system-of-systems complexity and limited in-house expertise, and insufficient requirements can drive poor product selection and further customization. A lack of automated migration tooling commonly forces manual, repetitive work, contributing to frequent modernization failures.
Persistent Systems’ Unity framework is positioned to reduce these risks by automating legacy assessment and migration to a target IGA platform, potentially cutting migration cost and effort by half. Unity provides a web interface to configure and test connections, run automated assessments, and generate detailed reports (including a High/Medium/Low complexity indicator, spider graphs, entity counts, and recommendations) that can be viewed in-app or downloaded as PDFs. For migration, Unity imports legacy data into a staging area with real-time status reporting, then connects to the target system and automates migration of schemas, applications, identities, entitlements, roles, policies, and workflows—dependent on available APIs. Unity can run on-premises or in the cloud and includes out-of-the-box connectors to products such as Ping Identity, ForgeRock, and Okta, complemented by Persistent’s advisory services.
