Decentralized ID – The Glue in a Web3 World

Decentralized Identity (DID) is pivotal in the digital era, offering a secure, privacy-centric identity solution. In contrast to traditional systems, which are centralized and prone to breaches, DID is built on blockchain technology. With DID, users have control over their data, reducing the risk of identity theft. Interoperability is enhanced, enabling secure authentication across platforms without a central authority. DID aligns with privacy regulations like the EU’s GDPR, emphasizing user consent and data control in a self-sovereign environment.

As digital interactions surge, decentralized identity becomes a crucial, user-centric tool for secure and seamless identity management in our interconnected, digital world. In this second edition of the “Road to EIC” series, we will discuss questions such as: Is it too early for DID's widespread implementation or is the advent of yet another disruptive technology breakthrough imminent?

Speakers' Contributions

Together with our guests, we will give you a taste of the much larger discussions to be held at the 2024 European Identity and Cloud Conference, taking place from June 4 to 7 in Berlin and online. Our moderator Martin Kuppinger will be joined by international trailblazers in the field: Kristina Yasuda, Identity Standards Architect at Microsoft, Kim Hamilton Duffy, Executive Director at the Decentralized Identity Foundation, Drummond Reed, Director of Trust Services at Gen Digital, and Torsten Lodderstedt, Technical Advisor at the Open Wallet Foundation.

Join this virtual fireside chat to learn how decentralized identity aims to enhance privacy and security by giving individuals greater control over their personal information through cryptographic techniques and distributed ledger technologies, and how it addresses the issue of siloed identity systems by promoting interoperability, allowing a standardized framework to be used across diverse platforms.
