Daniel Sandmann joined Allianz SE in June 2010 as a Senior Counsel, responsible for Compliance Policy, Communications & Regulatory Affairs. His role covers compliance training, culture and communciations, strategic development of the Compliance function and all aspects of regulatory compliance, including the lead of the Sales Compliance Program, Solvency II implementation for Compliance and all other aspects of prudential and securities regulation for Compliance.
Prior to joining Allianz, Daniel was Director at Deutsche Bank AG, Frankfurt and in charge of the interaction with regulators globally, including coordination of regulatory audits and of the colleges of supervisors. Before heading the Regulatory Contact Office, his positions at DB included global compliance coordination of Outsourcing, Compliance Officer for Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia and Serbia, reputational risk management coordination and Head of Training. He coordinated various material regulatory investigations within Deutsche Bank. From 2006-2008 he coordinated the MiFID implementation projects. He represented Deutsche Bank in various fora at German and European level, including working groups of the German Banking Association, the Committe of European Banking Supervisors and the BaFin Committee for the Minimum Requirements for Risk Management.
Daniel has been a research fellow at the Universities of Muenster and Barcelona. He studied at University of Muenster law school and received the bar exam at the Berlin Federal High Court. Daniel graduated from Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation and has a teaching assignment on Compliance at the University of Augsburg. He worked in the policy department of the Deutsche Bundestag and was for 9 months seconded to Spain in the European Commissions research project „Common Principles of European Private Law with Special Reference to Financial Transactions“. He published on various topics of compliance and is a frequent speaker at international conferences. Daniel is admitted to Bar in Munich, where he lives with his family, including a daughter of five, four turtles and border collie “Max”.
