Dirk Backofen is the Head of Telekom Security. In this role, he is accountable for P&L in the new business unit Telekom Security with its 1,200 employees. Telekom Security protects the employees and datacenters of the Deutsche Telekom Group against cyber attacks and threats. The unit also uses the same highly professional tools to serve customers in the external market. Telekom Security offers a Cyber Protection Shield for corporate customers and large enterprises, along with SMBs, VSE customers and private consumers. The key area of operation is Europe.

Dirk Backofen manages all special sales forces and consultants, portfolio and product management for security products , engineering, operations and also internal security within Telekom Security.

Dirk Backofen has a masters degree in information technology. He studied at the Technical University of Chemnitz (Germany) and has been working for Deutsche Telekom since 1991, starting in the technical department. From 1995 onwards, Dirk held various executive positions in product management, commercial management and marketing – especially in the areas of mobile communications, landline and IT/cloud services. Prior to working for Telekom Security, his last position was Senior Vice President Portfolio Management, Presales & Marketing for Business Customers, giving him responsibility for SMB market steering in Germany.

Dirk Backofen moved to Telekom Security in April 2016, taking on the role of Senior Vice President Portfolio Management, Engineering & Operations. In December 2016 he additionally became the overall Head of Telekom Security, in charge of the entire business unit.
