Andrew Turner

Andrew is a professional member of both the IET and the BCS and has been an Incorporated Engineer since 1989.  He started his career as a telecommunications apprentice with GPO Telephones (now BT) and progressed from there through a variety of posts ranging from fixing fruit machines to installing intruder alarms.  In 1976 he joined the Royal Air Force as a Ground Radar technician.  He became involved in computing in 1979.  In 1987 he left the Royal Air Force and managed to convince a local computer reseller that they really did need a technician on their books.  Since that time he has worked on various operating systems and network sizes.  Today he has the responsibility for Information Governance and Security for an NHS Health Board with 4,500 employees and a turnover of about £300m pa.
In 2009 he was partly responsible for the resurrection of the BCS Information Risk Management and Assurance Specialist group which at the time was about to fold.  He is now a committee member for the BCS IRMA and BCS Health Scotland Specialist Groups.  In December 2010 Andrew was invited to become a member of the IET Healthcare Technology Executive Committee.Andrew is married and lives in South West Scotland.
