Managing the Password Chaos
- LANGUAGE: English DATE: Thursday, February 12, 2015 TIME: 4:00pm CET, 10:00am EST, 7:00am PST
More than 10 years ago, Bill Gates predicted the death of the password. A decade later, reality shows that passwords are still the most common authentication method. Security and costs of passwords are critical factors for enterprises and organizations.
Enterprises and organizations more and more address password challenges with a comprehensive password management solution that is seamlessly integrated with identity management and access governance, provided either as a cloud service, operated as managed service or deployed on-premise.
Alternative authentication (e.g. OpenID connect) and authorization (e.g. OAuth2) mechanisms have been established and gain acceptance slowly but steadily. But with traditional username/password-logins still being ubiquitous, an appropriately secure and cost-effective password management complying with relevant data access and password policies (regarding e.g. password length, composition or duration) is key for all organizations. This is even more important with passwords often being one factor in today’s modern multi-factor authentication schemes.
This webinar will look at various aspects of password management:
- The role of passwords in today’s IT
- Password security threats and their avoidance
- Typical tasks in password management
- Integration of password management into existing identity management and access governance architectures
- Use case scenarios for today’s password management
In the first part of this webinar Matthias Reinwarth, Senior Analyst at KuppingerCole, will talk about user convenience in day-to-day password management while maintaining cost-efficient administrative password management processes. He will look into self-service password management (including password reset) for end users to reduce help desk costs and highlight opportunities for using password management provided as a service.
In the second part Rudolf Wildgruber, head of IAM product management at Atos, will present Atos’ integrated password management solutions and illustrate how password security can be increased while costs are reduced. Rudolf will talk about his project experience in DirX Identity and Evidian Enterprise Single Sign-On implementations, providing an integrated solution that meets current and future requirements for secure and cost-efficient password management.

Cloud computing and mobile workforces have resulted in an expanding attack surface and a complex web of identify information. This means that traditional perimeter-based security models are no longer effective. A Zero Trust model of strict access control for every user and device enables businesses to be connected and secure, but an effective identity-focused approach is essential.
