The Open API Economy - Opportunities and Risks

Just as cloud computing is providing a way to both reduce costs of operation while increasing efficiency and maintaining a reasonable amount of control, it is becoming clear that the Internet has become much more than a mechanism for disseminating basic information and engaging in taking orders - e-commerce.

The Internet has become an efficient mechanism by which organizations can engage in efficient communications and operations with suppliers, partners and customers. In short the cloud computing movement cannot be ignored by organizations as the cost to benefit ratio is simply too high. Customers also cannot ignore the API movement. Proactively designing efficient supply- AND demand-chain systems is a must.

The entire industry is now moving towards exposing core competency to programmers, partners, customers and other constituents through APIs. The trend is so important to the current and future success of organizations that it is referred to as an "economy". The word "Open" is added in front of API and the API economy, to describe that these APIs are easily accessible and ready for high traffic.
