However, a segregated approach to incident handling persists, largely due to the division between cloud and enterprise Security Operations Centers (SOCs). This separation results in fragmented authority lines and response delays in addressing cloud-origin threats. The growth of Comprehensive Network Access Policies (CNAPPs) is deemed as merely another stack by CIOs, leading to monitoring and response inefficiencies.
The integration value of endpoint, network, and cloud telemetry into a single response framework is emphasized, suggesting XDR as the strategic direction for swift threat detection and response across diversified environments. Identity is highlighted as a primary vulnerability channel, particularly for cloud-native attacks, necessitating a coherent approach to security that converges identity and security operations. The future of cloud security, as proposed, relies on embedding cloud SOC within the enterprise SOC, aiming for unified processes to expedite remediation during cloud-related security events.
Moreover, CNAPP, while improving risk identification linked to weak network controls and excessive access rights, is criticized for being a silo, isolated from traditional SOC tools, which hinders comprehensive threat intelligence utilization. To address these systemic gaps, the evolution toward a unified SOC, integrating CNAPP and SOAR/XDR capabilities, is proposed.
