Joy Chik

Joy Chik leads engineering for Microsoft’s multi-billion-dollar Identity business that is building greater security and mobility into consumer and enterprise technologies that billions of people rely on every day .

Since declaring itself a “mobile first, cloud first” company in 2014, Microsoft has invested billions of dollars in its cloud infrastructure and services. Joy Chik is responsible for the Azure Active Directory technology that 90 percent of fortune 500 companies, 17 million organizations, and over two billion people use to help secure their digital identities when signing into every Microsoft service, including Azure, Windows, Office 365, Outlook.com, Xbox Live, and Bing. Tens of billions of times a day, users of Microsoft’s cloud services authenticate their identities through the technology that Joy’s organization has created. She’s currently leading the charge to eliminate passwords, the source of the vast majority of data breaches, in favor of technology that authenticates people online through biometrics and other harder-to-hack methods.

Joy serves on the Board of Trustees for the Anita Borg Institute and on the Board of Directors of Sierra Wireless. A summa cum laude graduate in computer science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, she’s active in charities that encourage women and girls to pursue technology careers. When she is not busy finding new ways to secure and manage identities in this intelligent cloud world, Joy enjoys traveling, yoga, biking, hiking and other outdoor activities with her fiancé and two dogs.
