Born in northern Germany, Dr. Soddemann studied physics and mathematics in Paderborn and Freiburg. Soon his focus was in the emerging field of cross disciplinary computational sciences.
He continued his research in that field at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz. In 2001 he received his Dr. rer. nat. from the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz.
Following this, he spent time as a postdoctoral fellow at the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD with several extended research visits to Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, NM.
Later in 2002, he returned to Germany and started as an applications consultant at the RZG. In 2004 he received together with his colleague Markus Rampp the Heinz Billing Preis for advancements in the field of scientific computing for the development of a workflow engine and web application in the field of Bioinformatics. Dr. Soddemann is Task Leader within the EU DEISA project, active in the OGF standardization Group, e.g. acting as group chair, and technical consultant to several EU Grid project in various scientific areas.
Since 2007 he is the technical project manager the Max Planck Society's authentication and authorization infrastructure project.
