The many research articles about successful hacks into the IT of modern cars are evidence that the digital evolution has risks and IT security side effects. Due to the evolution from strictly mechanical vehicles to rolling super computers with many integrated sensors and connected electronic control units (ECUs), modern cars provide a wide attack surface for different groups of attackers.

This talk covers the technical background and demonstrates the attack surface of modern cars and the motivation for different groups of attackers as well as the resulting risks for the drivers, suppliers and OEM´s, from the view of a big insurance company.
