Leadership Compass

AI Security Posture Management (AI-SPM) solutions assess the security posture of AI systems by evaluating both cyber security exposure and the existence of security controls. They estimate residual risk by identifying where AI assets, identities, models and enterprise data are exposed, assessing the controls protecting them, and prioritising the risks according to their potential impact.

AI-SPM is an emerging market that is converging from cloud security, AI security, identity security, data security, and AI governance. This Leadership Compass focuses on solutions whose primary objective is to discover, assess, and prioritize AI security risks across enterprise AI environments. Products focused primarily on AI development, MLOps, Responsible AI governance, compliance, or individual security controls are considered adjacent markets unless they provide broad AI security posture management capabilities.

This is a new topic for our Leadership Compass reports. If you would like to see what Mike has to say about AI SPM, you can read his recently published LC on Cloud Native Application Protection Platforms by clicking this link.

To be included in this report, solutions must:
• Deliver functionality across most of the key capability areas described above.
• Provide continuous discovery and inventory of AI assets.
• Deliver posture assessment rather than solely runtime protection.
• Provide a unified management platform with centralized policy management and reporting.
• Support enterprise AI deployments across multiple AI platforms and environments.
• Provide APIs and automation suitable for integration with enterprise security operations.

Solutions will be excluded if:
• They only provide AI runtime protection (such as AI firewalls or prompt filtering).
• They only provide AI governance without technical security posture assessment.
• They only secure a single AI service or a single cloud provider.
• They consist of loosely integrated products rather than a unified platform.
• They are delivered exclusively as managed services.
