The publication of the mDL standard (ISO/IEC 18013-5) in 2021 was a significant milestone in the drive to make digital driving licences available to drivers. This was accompanied by considerable related activity, including test events, issuers coming on board, and platform providers facilitating technical solutions. So why does everyone not yet have an mDL in their wallet?
This session will briefly review the world-wide mDL ecosystem evolution up to now, highlight remaining challenges, and then share thoughts (and solicit ideas) on how the challenges can potentially be addressed. Curious about whether your European mDL will be accepted outside the EU? Wondering how EU relying parties can deal with mDLs from beyond the EU? These are just some of the questions that will be covered as a result of the discussion.
