New European standards for the EU Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) mandates support for a Hardware Security Module (HSM). This module is able to perform important cryptographic operations providing very strong security and privacy protection for a user.
The EUDIW is typically an application that users install on iOS or Android devices to manage government- and commercially-issued verifiable credentials.
Fulfilling the requirements of the EU Digital Identity Wallet framework, this presentation explores how an existing Digital Identity Wallet can be enhanced through the integration of a Hardware Security Module (HSM), considering both built-in and external implementations.
It also provides a compatibility matrix by analyzing current credential standards alongside the cryptographic capabilities of various HSMs.
