Austria introduced electronic and mobile identity in the early 2000s and has since achieved broad acceptance and widespread use—both for online authentication by individuals or legal representatives, and for offline applications such as mobile driving licences and digital identity cards. This keynote will trace the evolution of Austria’s digital identity landscape and outline the country's roadmap for a smooth transition to the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet). It will highlight key success factors, as well as potential challenges that may arise. Special focus will be given to how the EUDI Wallet can complement existing policy initiatives like the Once-Only Technical System, maximizing impact through strategic alignment and synergy.
