Transforming Financial Enterprise Processes: Audit on the Blockchain

This presentation reports on a joint project between Applied Sciences University RheinMain Wiesbaden Business School, Prof. Dr. Karin Gräslund and Technical University Munich, Department of Informatics, Information Systems, Vassilena Banova & Maximlian Barnet (Team of Prof. Dr. Helmut Krcmar) and the analyst company KuppingerCole, Wiesbaden, with Martin Kuppinger. Jörg Schneider representing the company flowDOCS, Stuttgart, a certified SAP Partner specializing in FI-AP-processing, which expressed its interests to participate as a second commercial project partner. SAP SE agreed on support.

The project elaborated a first concept for blockchain-enabled S/4HANA audits on a procurement process so far. Additionally a Wiesbaden master class of Controlling & Financials students developed some first operational and analytical Fiori-App-Designs on fraud analytics, which will be enhanced in the summer semester and further discussed with user target groups.

As next steps the prototype for HANA-Connection with the MS-Azure-blockchain-as-a-services is planned, to be tested and to implement first and simple HANA analytics on top. On the longer run, we will realize prototypes of block chain enabled audits in SAP S/4HANA and analyze further, how this will change finance processes in companies in more detail.

The CULedger Initiative, Using Sovrin, XDI, and Swirlds

CULedger is a consortium of American credit unions looking at distributed ledgers and other decentralized technologies for satisfying use cases in the credit union industry. This includes financial transactions such as moving money and loan participation, as well as other applications such as strong authentication of members, secure messaging, and sharing of threat-related information.

CULedger uses the Sovrin distributed ledger for reliable identities of credit union members and participating institutions. It uses the XDI protocol for secure data sharing, messaging, and for negotiating and establishing agreements between institutions. It also uses the Swirlds hashgraph technology for establishing a reliable "shared state" between all participants of CULedger that can be used to efficiently propagate information to all participants.
