This Leadership Compass investigates the current state of the ICS sector and documents the ability of the main industry players to navigate technological advances and provide a coherent approach to managing and protecting ICS infrastructure from cybersecurity attacks, and any resulting compromise. Both equipment vendors and management software vendors are invited to participate. In both cases, secure access management to the industrial operational environment is expected. This report is a new Leadership Compass topic, but we have done a smaller Market Compass report on a similar topic in the past. If you would like to see this version, please click here.
The focus is on solutions that provide the following capabilities:
• Ability to discover, inventory, and monitor ICS components on the network, such as PLCs, SCADA nodes, HMIs, IIoT devices, remote access nodes or jump boxes, telemetry forwarding devices, etc. This requires the security solution to understand common and proprietary OT/ICS/IIoT protocols.
• Provision for notification of device operational status
• An administrative tool to manage access control to ICS devices
• Support for over-the-air maintenance for remote controllers/devices
• Ability to leverage LTE/5G communications features
• Support for event management for logging and detection purposes
• Provision of connectors/APIs for corporate management tools (SOC, SIEM, SOAR, etc.)
• Provision of specialized ICS environment aware detection tools to identify possible intrusion events
• An administrative tool for controller/device/network isolation in the event of a compromise
• Support for backup and restore facilities for OT/ICS and IIoT devices
• Support for industry regulatory reporting requirements.
