Telco companies have been struggling for years now, to get new services to the masses, but so far with little success. At the same time traditional, voice related revenue models start pointing at a steady decrease and telcos are at risk to be reduced to IP tunnel provider services for Skype & Co. On the other side, the Web 2.0 wave has been giving ground to a large number of new applications with appeal and great user numbers. Many of these applications would not only make sense if they run on a mobile phone, but could even add value if combined with location based context.
The more such services are being personalized, the more essential it is to protect user profiles from unauthorized use. Therefore, in order to open mobile networks to the success of Web 2.0 and gain new revenue models, mobile identity, privacy and security are key issues to be solved. Managing identities in a mobile environment securely yet privacy enhanced is only possible if the user himself has complete control.
- How will future devices and their operating systems support the mobility of user centric identities?
- Which standards will be the most important ones for privacy enhanced, secure mobile Identities?
