Tim McGrath joined KuppingerCole, Asia Pacific Region in mid 2017 as a Senior Analyst to provide Professional Services to KC clients with primary responsibility for Digital transformation for Government, and the Supply & Logistics sector. Before joining KuppingerCole, Tim McGrath was the Managing Director and a Principal Consultant of Document Engineering Services. In this capacity he has worked on several international projects focusing on the issues of governance and management of interoperability through the use of open standards. Tim is also a popular speaker at conferences dealing with issues of interoperability and standardization for inter-organizational information systems especially in relation to Digital Transformation for Government. He has authored several books including “Document Engineering: Analyzing and Designing Documents for Business Informatics and Web Services” from MIT Press (2005).
From July 2005 until early in 2016, Tim was the vice-chair of the OASIS Universal Language Technical Committee (UBL). In June 2011 he was appointed a Bureau Vice Chair to UN/CEFACT, responsible developing a framework for trust aligning the work plans of UNECE, ISO and UNCITRAL. Between August 2009 and December 2010 Tim worked on the European Commissions’ Pan European Public eProcurement Online (PEPPOL) project assisting in the development of a focused and effective policy making strategy for the development and implementation of eBusiness standards and recommendations. Tim McGrath has a vision of universal business data interoperability through the use of open standards.
Tim McGrath is also a recognised as a leader in the introduction of Internet technologies to the e-Commerce marketplace in Australia, specifically in the areas of international trade and transport. Tim was an active participant in the development of the ISO 15000 (ebXML) standards. He led the Quality Review Team for the ebXML initiative between 2000 and 2002, was a member of the ebXML Steering Committee. He is also a co-author of Professional ebXML Foundations from Wrox Press.
Since 2002 he has been the Chair of the Library Content subcommittee of the OASIS Universal Business Language (UBL) project as well as collaborating on a soon-to-be published book from MIT Press entitled "Document Engineering: Designing Documents for Business Informatics and Web Services". Over the past twelve months, Tim has been promoting UBL in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Korea and China.
Tim specializes in the area of Interorganisational Information Systems, specifically community governance of standards to enable digital transformation through public/private partnerships by promoting technologies that enable trusted exchanges of business information in a global trading environment. Tim has a B.Bus (Information Processing) from Curtin University (1984) in Western Australia and brings to the field 20 years experience of business process and data analysis and inter-organisational information system design.
