With a SSI guarantee of privacy, patients will soon leverage a multitude of healthcare services that build on Decentralized Identity and Verifiable Credentials. Marco and Dan are leading the “PharmaLedger” consortium in the evaluation and prioritization of these use cases and can provide insights into the thinking and possibilities that the future holds.
In 2018 the UK pioneered legislation [CMA9] which allows non banks to access the financial networks, subject to account holder consent. In March 2020 with the introduction of PSD2 this legislation will be extended to all of the EU and also to Credit Cards and other regulated entities: giving access to over 1.3bn accounts. Ecospend, an FCA regulated Open Banking service provider, are building a self sovereign data assertion layer on top of their existing bank connections. The envisaged service will allow a member [account holder] to assert something which can be evidenced from a bank statement. Julian’s talk and demonstration will show how the team have had to modify and extend the Aries protocols to consider the needs of dynamic [rapidly changing] credentials and how to make these available easily to everyone in a broad range of situations [use cases]. Julian will also suggest how such developments can contribute to what he sees as becoming an holistic identity.
John will cover a journey that has unfolded over the last three years as he has worked closely with BC Registries, Service BC and many other private and public sector collaborators. This journey started with the decades old problem of “How do we help our businesses discover and do what they need to with government?”. It is currently unfolding through his team's participation as core contributors to a global open source project, Hyperledger Aries and Indy, and the emergence of the Trust over IP Stack which may lead to the establishment of a new trust layer for the Internet.
