ESB or the Enterprise Service Bus struggles today to survive from death, however, a decade back, it was selling like a piece of cake and everyone wanted a bite. ESB was synonymous with SOA, something the clever salesmen loved talking about. Outside old sales books, ESB is not SOA. Buying an ESB, does not buy you SOA. SOA is a pattern you would build integrating an ESB with many other components following SOA design principles.
Like SOA, CIAM is a solution that you build integrating multiple components. It must follow a well-thought design. User experience in a CIAM solution is only the tip of the iceberg. APIs and integration, scalability, strong/adaptive authentication, analytics, security, and privacy are the key pillars that help build the ultimate user experience ground-up. Thinking of CIAM as a product you buy, rather than a solution you build is the ESB moment in CIAM.
This keynote takes you through on how to kill that ESB moment in Customer IAM or explores the options in building CIAM as a solution.
