Combined Session
Wednesday, May 13, 2020 14:30—15:30
Location: CHIEMSEE

What is 5G and Why It Matters

5G is the next generation of cellular mobile communications.  5G is intended to provide the massive increase in capacity and connectivity that will be required for IoT deployments as well as supporting new communications services.  While 5G is being sold to consumers as superfast mobile broadband there is a lot more to it than that.  It has the potential to impact on a wide range of organizations as well as public infrastructure.  5G provides the communications needed to enable clouds of things but it also creates risks which need to be managed.

After attending this session, you will be able to:

  • Describe the key capabilities offered by 5G cellular communications.

  • List examples of where 5G is being applied today as well as future opportunities.

  • Describe how identity authentication is achieved in 5G.

  • Describe how 5G will impact on cloud services.

  • Describe the security benefits and risks around the use of 5G
