Consent and Blockchain: Silver Bullets or Smoke and Mirrors

Keynote
Wednesday, October 23, 2019 16:40—17:00
Location: Salon B & C

We’re now living in a post truth world, deep fakes and manufactured news makes it increasingly hard to trust at first sight. Since the introduction of GDPR we have been talking about Consent “as-if” a tick in the box mitigates all risk. Yet we are already seeing significant fines for breaches that are making organisations rethink privacy, security and trust. Whilst the Regulation is clear that in order to protect customers, ‘consent’ needs to be meaningful and unambiguous, there are other reasons for CIAM professionals to care.

In the increasingly connected digital world, customers will either be enabled to use their data in a meaningful way for personalised services or find their data weaponised resulting in irreparable harm. For organisations, governance and audit are increasingly critical in the design of any product and service collecting, processing or storing personal data. This session will focus on why meaningful consent is so important and how blockchain and distributed ledger can enable trustless environments whilst protecting business logic and extending cross enterprise and industry collaboration.
