Consumer Privacy invasion is alarming here in the USA. According to CNN, robocalls have made over 47.8 billions of spam calls last year, which means more than 150 calls per American in 2018! I’m a victim of these spam calls, who unsuccessfully fights them.
NY Times reports: Americans have been too vulnerable for far too long when they venture online. Companies can freely monitor Americans’ behavior and collect information about them from across the web and the real world to do everything from selling them cars to influencing their votes to setting their life insurance rates — all usually without the users’ knowledge of the data collection and manipulation taking place behind the scenes.”
The fact of the matter is that technology has been freely used to break privacy rather than to protect it. This is partially due to a lack of regulation necessary to stop businesses from exploiting consumer privacy.
In this session, John Lima will highlight the problem caused by the lack of privacy regulation, emphasize its need and present some technologies to support regulation and demonstrate how the collecting data with user consent may help businesses to engage with users and benefit both sides.
