To take control of today's identity spam, several vendors have taken the challenge to consider identity federation as a valid solution as far as single-sign-on (SSO) or identity as a service (IDaaS) are concerned. One approach that drives IDaaS consistently, but also requires a new mindset for all involved persons, is Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI): a digital identity that is completely under the control of its owner and works without a centralized authority. SSI has the inherent ability to uniquely release certain information for specific purposes and withdraw access on its own and when needed. One of the biggest challenges for using SSI is its implementation in existing application infrastructures. Dr. André Kudra demonstrates a prototype for integrating SSI into existing application infrastructures at this lecture.
