InfoCert’s core offering, as an EU Trust Service Provider -TSP, includes qualified certificates, time stamps, digital preservation, electronic delivery and identity management services – the kind of „centralized“ trust services many expect the blockchain to supplant. This is not necessarily the case: Sovrin provides a bright example of a distributed infrastructure which enables an ecosystem of Trusted Records issuers and consumers.
Following this vision, InfoCert joined the Sovrin Network as a founding steward. The job included two main activities: the technical set-up of the infrastructure (which, as all initial implants, went through a tuning process) and the participation to the drafting of Sovrin Trust Framework. This second task provided a valuable insight on the differences between the (EU) centrally regulated top-down approach and the (US) bottom-up approach to trust establishment. We expect a new paradigm to emerge from cross-fertilization. As an aside, the early participation to the network offered the necessary vision to start some proof-of-concepts with final users.
