IAM is not an isolated part of IT. It is a part of the services IT delivers to the business. Even while being a very important topic, Identity Management has to be understood as a part of overall Business Service Management initiatives. Business process automation isn’t really different for IAM and for other services which IT provides. Identity Management is as well important because it is a cornerstone of IT accounting, as well as of the compliance-driven control of every business service management initiative. Eckhard Völcker provides his view and vision on how Identity Management has to be integrated in these overall strategies and how they will succeed – whilst isolated BSM strategies which focus only on some technical IT infrastructure services are likely to fail or at least not to fully deliver their promise.
