Disruption in the financial industry does not primarily come from the FinTechs. It is the connected customer, living a mobile, digital life with all sorts of services at his fingertips, who requires financial services to be frictionless, and to provide a great experience. With PSD2 opening the value chain traditional banks used to posess to 3rd parties, banks need to proactively provide best-of-breed services. To do so, they need to really know their customers, far beyond the regulator driven KYC approach. Banks sit on their incredibly rich data treasures but often are unable to take advantage of that, needing to invest in infrastructure for not being trapped in legacy systems and structures. anymore.
