Vendor Report: Siemens - 70169
Siemens is one of the largest companies in the world. Siemens IT Solutions and Services (SIS), responsible for IT-products and services, is one of the different segments [referred to by Siemens as “sectors”] within the group. The established IAM and GRC products from Siemens are also allocated to this segment.
In December of 2010, Siemens and Atos Origin announced that they will establish a global strategic partnership. To create a market-leading European IT company, Siemens AG will integrate the business of Siemens IT Solutions and Services into Atos Origin in the summer of 2011, which will change various product responsibilities accordingly.
Biometric solutions, smartcards, card management and public key infrastructures are part of the product range for IT security, in addition to IAM core solutions. SIS strongly focuses on the integration of horizontal solution portfolios such as ERP, CRM and vertical solution portfolios (EU Service Directive, PLM, healthcare, physical access control, etc.) beyond just the products themselves. Hence, integrated IAM applications are becoming available as well. Such a range of solutions is available in this form from virtually no other provider in the IAM and GRC market and could increasingly become a competitive advantage for SIS.
Siemens IT Solutions and Services has generated significant growth in the IAM field in recent years, as its clear focus and continuous product development activities are paying off. SIS also benefits from the company’s global presence.
We assume that SIS will continue to be able to improve its visibility and positioning in the marketplace even after its acquisition by Atos Origin and will increasingly become successful through its vertical market offerings. Because of the strength of its product portfolio, we recommend including Siemens IT Solutions and Services in the IAM evaluation processes.

The EU GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), becoming effective May 25, 2018, will have a global impact not only on data privacy, but on the interaction between businesses and their customers and consumers. Organizations must not restrict their GDPR initiatives to technical changes in consent management or PII protection, but need to review how they onboard customers and consumers and how to convince these of giving consent, but also review the amount and purposes of PII they collect. The impact of GDPR on businesses will be far bigger than most currently expect. [...]
