Vendor Report: BiTKOO - 70110
BiTKOO is a privately held company that provides solutions for authorization/entitlement management in enterprise IT environments. The company was founded in 2006, starting with its product Keystone based on technology formerly developed for Walt Disney Company. BiTKOO has since broadened its product portfolio substantially and now offers several products around authorization management for different IT environments.
Authorization/entitlement management is among the most interesting new areas within the broader IAM (Identity and Access Management) market. It is about managing entitlements and making authorization decisions outside of applications, based on a standardized infrastructure. That allows organizations to externalize security by separating it from the applications themselves, thus avoiding the need for hard-coded security mechanisms. However, getting that right can be tricky since it has to be able to support fine-grain authorization decisions. BiTKOO’s technology currently leads the field in that market.
BiTKOO provides several technically sophisticated products that share the benefits of a small footprint and low demand for know-how and experience on the part of the developers. This contrasts favorably with pure-play XACML strategies. Nevertheless, looking at it from the authorization/entitlement management, SharePoint security and Microsoft SQL Server security angle, we strongly recommend that organizations take BiTKOO’s product offerings under consideration in these cases.
As a company, BiTKOO is still a relatively small niche vendor. However they can boast a good track record of successful deployments in their product’s specific market segments and are working on expanding their partner ecosystem.

The EU GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), becoming effective May 25, 2018, will have a global impact not only on data privacy, but on the interaction between businesses and their customers and consumers. Organizations must not restrict their GDPR initiatives to technical changes in consent management or PII protection, but need to review how they onboard customers and consumers and how to convince these of giving consent, but also review the amount and purposes of PII they collect. The impact of GDPR on businesses will be far bigger than most currently expect. [...]
