Product Report: Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 and Kaspersky Security Center 9 - 70401

Report Details

Kaspersky Endpoint Security and Kaspersky Security Center are two key components of Kaspersky Open Space Security – the integrated security suite from highly reputable security company Kaspersky Lab. Targeted primarily towards small and medium businesses, Kaspersky Open Space Security offers a flexible solution for protecting workstations, file and mail servers, network gateways, mobile devices and smartphones. Depending on their requirements, customers can choose from several solutions, each with different components. However since endpoint protection and centralized management represent the most important functions of any security solution, these two products constitute the foundation of each of them.

Released after three years of development, Kaspersky Endpoint Security replaces several earlier applications for workstation and server protection. It provides anti-malware protection for Windows-based computers and servers and security control for applications, web resources, and removable devices. Version 8 finally integrates all the latest technologies from Kaspersky Lab’s consumer products into their business solutions, and introduces several new features such as virtual machine support, granular device control, and vulnerability monitoring.

Kaspersky Security Center is the centralized management portal for all Kaspersky’s business products. It is used to define and enforce security policies within or outside of the corporate network; to provide centralized deployment, configuration and monitoring of Kaspersky products on multiple platforms; and to provide reporting and status information via its web interface. An important new feature of Security Center 9 is support of virtualized environments, including lifecycle management for virtual machines and load optimization for Kaspersky Lab security applications for VM host servers.

Don’t Blame the Cloud for Capital One’s Troubles

After the recent Capital One breach, some commentators have suggested that cloud security is fundamentally flawed. Like many organizations today, Capital One uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) to store data, and it was this that was targeted and successfully stolen. In the case of Capital One it was process, not technology, that failed. The company failed on three points to secure its data properly using the extended tool sets that AWS provides. It relied only on the default encryption settings in [...]
