Dr. Vangelis Gazis

Evangelos (Vangelis) Gazis (PhD, MBA) is Chief Architect for IoT Security in Huawei’s Products and Solutions (P&S) organisation where he oversees the technology roadmap of common security capabilities for the IoT domain (i.e. IoT devices, IoT network, IoT gateways, and IoT cloud platform). He also serves the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) as a member of its work IoT Security expert group and the European Cyber Security Organisation (ECSO) in the cybersecurity certification and innovation roadmap work streams.

Vangelis brings more than 20 years of experience in multiple research, development and innovation projects in the FP5, FP6 and H2020 frameworks, as well as in the industry. He has more than 10 years of R&D multiple topics in the area of data networks, including cellular mobile (i.e. 3GPP) networks, next-generation mobile networks, software architecure and ontologies. He has expert knowledge of global standards in multiple domains (oneM2M, ETSI, 3GPP, IETF, IEEE, OMG) and on technology roadmapping as part of the service and product strategy.

Vangelis has a comprehensive and spherical understanding of systems-of-systems and cybersecurity. His architecture work alone covers bandwidth broker designs for the pan-european research infrastructure of GEANT, protocol design for online service provision, metropolitan network design for academic institutions, resilient medium access control schemes for tactical communication among submarines, and resilient communications for autonomous wireless access systems. In cybersecurity, his work fed into the "Baseline Security Recommendations for Internet of Things" and the "Good Practices for Security of Internet of Things in the context of Smart Manufacturing" reports of ENISA.

He has contributed in policy recommendation to national regulatory bodies and as an expert evaluator to the European Commission for R&D initiatives. He has a deep expertise in cellular mobile networks, security, data networks, system of systems, software engineering, and ontology semantics. He speaks English, Greek, German, and French.
