Dr. Richard Tomsett

Richard has been part of the Emerging Technology team in IBM Research since February 2016, where he specialises in AI and data science applications. He has worked on a broad variety of client engagements in several different industries including biometrics, sports analysis, satellite imagery, and smart cities. He is also a researcher in the Distributed Analytics & Information Sciences International Technology Alliance, a 10-year program that brings together partners from government, academia and industry in the UK and US to conduct collaborative fundamental research. His focus in this program is on interpretable and adversarial machine learning, particularly in distributed computing environments. Prior to joining IBM Richard completed a PhD in theoretical neuroscience at Newcastle University, followed by a year's postdoctoral fellowship studying neural information processing at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology in Japan.
